…Bishop Ezeokafor Blesses Projects at Community High School, Akwaeze

By CP Uzaganaobi

The newly built female hostel and male hostel foundation blocks of Community High School Akwaeze has been blessed by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, with the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, commissioning it. The event took place on Saturday 6 May 2023.

The chairperson of Nzekwuabuo Foundation, Chief Sir Ikenna Okafor (Ide Akwaeze), reconstructed the school buildings: fully renovated and furnished the air conditioned two-storey building; fully furnished the air conditioned and well stocked ultra-modern library; fully furnished the air conditioned Biology, Chemistry and Physics Laboratories; extensive ultra-modern multi-purpose hall; dug borehole with overhead tanks; supplied and installed computers to assist the students in learning.

He said the school was in a bad state when he took over to reconstruct and build new structures which he had now donated to the Catholic Diocese of Awka. He noted that education fell in his corporate social responsibility and that his quest was to build modern secondary school in Akwaeze; including the primary school. He said any child schooling in Akwaeze was sure to have a standard education, which, he said, was the same anywhere in Nigeria, if not better.

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Soludo, talking about the gestures of Okafor, described it as living a life with purpose. He commended and encouraged his philanthropic gestures, not only in the educational sector, but also in the security sector which cut across Akwaeze to the local government and Anambra in general.

Ide Akwaeze also donated and handed over a Toyota Sienna car to the Chief security of Anaocha LGA to aid in security patrol.

Soludo seized the opportunity to urge Ndi Anambra to look towards their homeland, noting that they had abundant wealth, both human and material, but dominant outside the state. He therefor urged Ndi Anambra to join hands to build their homeland to be livable and prosperous and contribute effectively to all sectors in the state.

Speaking to Fides, Chief Alex Obiefuna said that what Ide Akwaeze had started and was doing was to enhance the growth of education in the community, even as he thanked God for his kind of person and prayed that he would continually be blessed.

The Vice Chancellor of Peter University, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Umezinwa, commended Okafor’s support in the growth of education in Anambra State, noting that he had contributed to Peter University Achina-Onneh, while donating some books to the University Library.

In attendance at the event were the Igwe of Akwaeze and his cabinet, among other dignitaries.

Akwaeze is among the ten communities that make up Anaocha Local Government Area.
