Papal Knights and Medalists, Onitsha Province, Hold 1st Plenary for 2026

By Michael Nnebife

The Papal Knights and Medalists of Onitsha Province, Sunday, June 28,2026 held their first plenary meeting for the year, 2026. The event took place at St John’s Catholic Church, Neni, in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State.

Speaking during the homily, the Parish Vicar, St John’s Catholic Church, Neni, Rev Fr Anthony Okoyeatu, told the congregation to see the work of God as belonging to everyone and not just the priests and religious, noting that not everyone would be ordained.

Quoting the book of Matthew Chapter 10, Fr Okoyeatu reminded the congregation of God’s command to the faithful to treat his prophets well, as whoever rejected the prophets would equally be rejected, while those who honoured them would be blessed. The Vicar, who exhorted the knights and the faithful to imbibe the habit of helping the needy, urged the parishioners to always show good discipleship by answering any call for assistance by the parish in order to keep God’s work going. The event had Chief Sir Augustine Ibeme as Chief Host.

‎In an interview with Fides, the President, Papal Knights and Medalists, Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Rt Hon Peter Anazodo, said the essence of the event was for the knights to rub minds on the situation of things in Nigeria, particularly the 2027 General Elections, as it concerned the Church.

‎Rt Hon Anazodo further said that persecution of the Church and and the righteous, promotion of injustice, among other fraudulent and dishonest acts in the country today, also necessitated the event.

‎Emphasizing that the knights of the Church should not fold their arms and watch, Anazodo charged them to draw their swords for an aggressive war against the ugly situation of things in the country.

‎Also speaking, Augustine Ibeme, who hosted the event, appealed to Catholic knights to always help their fellow human beings, particularly the needy around them.

‎He stressed that assistance to fellow human being resonated with the motto of the Papal Knights and Medalists.‎‎
