The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, on Sunday, 26th April 2026, visited Sacred Heart Catholic Chaplaincy, Ngozika Estate, Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, four years after his last visit.
In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor, who was accompanied to the visit by the Chancellor of Diocese, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi; the Education Secretary of the Diocese and the Priest-in-Residence, Rev. Fr. Maximus Okonkwo; the Bursar of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Nicodemus Izuchukwu; the Director of Fides Media, Rev. Fr. Obiora Ikeh; the Deputy Director of Fides Media, Rev. Fr. Constantine Echichechi Okoli; among others, expressed delight with the level of development recorded so far in the Chaplaincy, especially in the area of infrastructure and other basic things expected to be seen in a Chaplaincy.
The Prelate, while extolling the Chaplaincy and the Parishioners, exhorted them to think about supporting and investing at the Cathedral level, noting that the Cathedral remained the headquarters of the Diocese and deserved to be up-to-date and better, describing it as the symbol and the first port of call for any visitor coming into the Diocese.
He added that the Cathedral was to the Diocese, what Abuja is to Nigeria.
Continuing, the Cleric expressed sadness with the level of corruption going on in the country, even as he lampooned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as his numerous unfulfilled promises, especially as it concerned power supply.
‘Imagine the President that promised us 24 hours power supply during the campaigns is now using solar energy in Aso Rock. What does that tell you? It is obvious that he can never keep to his promises. The same man is vying for re-election. There is no electricity anywhere in Nigeria, insecurity everywhere in Jos, Benue, and other parts of the country. People are being killed, slaughtered by bandits, and yet, he is more concerned about how he can be re-elected.
‘Corruption has eaten deep into our fabric. Embezzlement is the order of the day. Nothing is actually moving in Nigeria. Inflation and borrowing. No project is being funded. The lawmakers are there, approving every loan without hesitation and questioning. We are stuck.
‘Another serious issue is the issue of Islamization of Nigeria. It is still ongoing, and the Christian political class are feeling unconcerned about that devilish agenda. Muslim/Muslim ticket is an aberration in a secular state. It is a no go area, but what are people doing about it? They are there for their pockets. Even the Senate President, who is of the Catholic faith, is not doing anything about it.
I am pained because those who are supposed to be speaking and condemning the evil plans are busy chasing shadows. They are just after what enters their mouth and how to remain in the corridors of power. They do not care about the current situation and the sufferings of the masses.
‘They are just after the next election. This issue of Muslim/Muslim is not something we should keep quiet about. It is not something that should be swept under the carpet. Islamization Agenda is still on, and we must all come together to fight it. Look at what is happening in Jos and Benue. It is a calculated attempt. They are no longer testing the waters. They are carrying out their evil motives. Christians should wake up and fight this monster.
Admonishing the newly confirmed candidates, Bishop Ezeokafor charged them to be ardent followers of the teachings of the Universal Church and ensure that they obeyed and complied with the doctrines, and, above all, be useful to themselves, families, Church, and society at large.
Bishop Ezeokafor called on parents to desist from leaving their responsibility to others, exhorting them to train and pay closer attention to their children.
On the issue of neo-paganism, the Local Ordinary regretted that the youths were no longer practicing neo-paganism but actually going into serious fetishism, saying that they were now killing and maiming under the guise of going back to their roots.
‘These children are mean and deadly. Our forebears, who practiced paganism did not kill or commit all manner of atrocities. They did not shed the blood of innocent people. Today, these youths are going into diabolism. They invoke and engage all kinds of violent spirits, endangering and mortgaging themselves and that of their immediate and extended families.
‘Parents should do more. If not, it will be their turn someday. I blame the parents who abandoned their duty to be gallivanting. Many are committing adulterous acts and thinking they are enjoying life. Some wives and husbands now sleep around, leaving behind the core duty of parenthood,’ Bishop Ezeokafor lamented.
Welcoming the Bishop, the Chaplain of the Chaplaincy, Rev. Fr. Chigozie Jidere; the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Valentine Obienyem; 1st Vice Chairman of the Chaplaincy Council, Dr. Joseph Obi; Youth Coordinator, Sacred Heart Catholic Chaplaincy, Ngozika Estate, Rev. Sr. Dr. Nwosu Ogochukwu Honorata (DMMM); sponsors of the confirmed candidates, Prof. and Prof. Emenike Obi; Secretary, Chaplaincy Council, Engr. Chiamaka Akaeze, expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Bishop.
The Chaplain appreciated all those who worked tirelessly towards the planning of the Bishop’s visit.
Administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on 137 Candidates by Bishop Ezeokafor, presentation of gifts, group photographs, and cultural displays formed the highpoints of the event.
